Activities & Entertainment

Activities make up the most important part of all our days and we ensure a variety that reflects the interests and capabilities of all the people we support. Our teams are trained to understand the importance of stimulating engagement as well as ensuring residents have the opportunity to enjoy passions and creative hobbies that are personal to them. All group and individual activity is designed to not only mentally and physically stimulate the people we care for but to enhance their life skills and feelings of purpose and self-worth.

A major focus on who we are!

Every life is unique and a tale worth telling. For many residents, discussing or remembering the past brings back positive memories which they enjoy recounting and is an important exercise for cognitive function. Reminiscence helps us to understand who a person was, as well as who they are now. Our homes include reminiscence prompts from certain time periods that be used for activities, to aid discussion topics or even as way-finding devises that promote independence. Listening and getting to know a person’s life experience and history also helps us to understand their likes and dislikes, enabling us to truly offer personalised care.

Here are some ways we enable residents to reminisce

  • War-time entertainers and singers
  • Memory boxes
  • Baking family receipes
  • Memorabilia in areas of the home
  •  Photos and memorabilia of celebrities and well-known events from the past
  • Theme weeks such as “summer holidays” or ‘love”

Intergenerational projects

We are so proud of our work in the intergenerational activities space and we have forged wonderful relationships with schools, groups and sports clubs to provide enriching interaction with children – such as singing, bowling, board games, gardening and poetry.

Weekly and monthly activities

Our regular activities provide the framework for each week and are based upon the needs and wishes of our residents. Some activities work better in groups and at other times, are focused on the individual. We cover a range of subjects to enrich body, mind and soul and all our activities are personalised to cater for each individual’s ability.

Here are some examples of activities residents enjoy

  • Yoga
  • Pilates
  • Exercises with weights or resistance bands
  • Movement to music- often assisted by local musicians and bands
  • Ball and balloon games
  • Floor games (i.e. skittles)
  • Walking
  • Gentle exercises in bed
  • Armchair exercises
  • Sensory experiences
  • Mindful relaxation

We have recently invested in some wonderful baking studios in our homes, where residents can make their favourite recipes alone or in groups. We are always baking pies, crumbles and cakes for our friends and families

Nature

Gardening is very important to us at all of our homes and we have thriving gardening clubs at every location. Raised beds and specially designed greenhouses mean that our residents can grow almost anything!

All of our homes are anchored in the heart of the beautiful English countryside and we share our lives with an abundance of wild birds and animals. We weave nature activities into every week and regularly go birdwatching and foraging – we are passionate about the fresh air!

We do have a weekly ever-changing activities timetable in every home, but the following are always available for residents to make use of at any time

  • Recent magazines and newspapers on different subjects and interests
  • Fiction and non-fiction books
  • Audio-books
  • Variety of games including puzzles, crosswords and cards
  • TV, radio and films
  • Writing sets
  • Knitting and craft materials

Themed and special events

We thrive on creating inclusive, seasonal and culturally diverse events such Easter, Chinese New Year and Diwali. We also love to focus on events where families can be together and have fun such as Halloween, sports events like Wimbledon and the occasional dog show!

Our managers and staff are empowered to use their imagination to conjure up an eclectic and always entertaining mix of entertainment and we have a great relationship with local experts in all sorts of disciplines, to help topics come to life.
